I run a Duplicate Whist Game in Taunton MA. on Thursday nights twice a month. My game is on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month at 7:00pm. Duplicate Whist if you have never played it, is played just like regular Whist. The only differences are the cards are passed on trays called boards from table to table. Each board will take its turn in being trump starting with Hearts then Diamonds, Spades, Clubs, and No Trump. So basically it's the same game without cutting the deck and dealing out on every hand. You also play with the same partner for the whole night; you don't change partners like in the traditional Whist Party. You can come with a partner or come yourself. Duplicate Whist is a good game for small groups. We normally between 5 to 8 tables on most nights. There are no prizes; you will just get a score card, one score card for each pair. The cost is free, just a donation cover refreshments. I hope you can come we would love to have you. And bring some folks together who like to play and enjoy the game.
We will meet inside the gates at 9:30 AM. The cemetery is quite large and we probably won't cover it all. I believe they have maps available for a minimal cost so we can decide what we would like to see. If you have never been there, check out their website for ideas - here's the architecture section: http://www.mountauburn.org/national_landmark/architecture.cfm I would like to go to the tower which offers beautiful skyline views of Boston (bring the zooms)! When we get there, we can decide if we want to break up into smaller groups or just all head out together. Mount Auburn Cemetery has been designated a National Historic Landmark by the Department of the Interior, recognizing it as one of the country's most significant cultural landscapes. Founded in 1831, it was the first large-scale designed landscape open to the public in the United States. Today its beauty, historical associations and horticultural collections are internationally renowned. Mount Auburn is still an active cemetery and as such they have strict rules regarding photography and visiting. We are not allowed to photograph funerals nor are we allowed to use any pictures for commercial use or publication without their permission. (I will post more details about rules separately).
